Help & support
Getting started, fixing common problems, and how to reach us.
Getting started
- Open Signal Says and follow the three welcome screens.
- Switch on Show in status bar and allow notifications when asked. That’s how the label gets next to the clock.
- If your phone offers it, tap Keep it running so Android doesn’t pause the app to save battery.
- Add a widget: long-press an empty spot on your home screen, tap Widgets, find Signal Says and pick a size.
- Optional: add the Quick Settings tile by editing the tiles in your pull-down panel.
If the label stops changing
Some phones pause apps in the background to save battery, which freezes the label. Open your phone’s settings for Signal Says and allow it to run in the background:
- Google Pixel and most phones: App battery usage (or Battery), then Unrestricted.
- Samsung: Battery, then Unrestricted.
- Xiaomi, Redmi, POCO: Battery saver, then No restrictions.
- OnePlus, OPPO, realme: Battery usage, then allow background activity.
- Huawei, Honor: Battery, turn off “Manage automatically” and allow running in the background.
Signal Says shows a Keep it running card with a shortcut to the right page when it can tell this is needed.
Questions
Why does Signal Says need to show a notification?
Android only lets an app put something in the status bar through a notification, so the label lives in a quiet notification that does not make a sound. If you turn notifications off, the status bar label cannot be shown.
The label stopped changing. How do I fix it?
Your phone has probably stopped Signal Says in the background to save battery. Open the app, tap Keep it running, then set the app battery usage to Unrestricted (the exact name varies by phone maker).
My status bar says 5G but Signal Says shows 4G.
On Android 12 and later Signal Says follows the network type your status bar shows. On Android 11 and older, 5G that works alongside 4G may be shown as 4G.
How do I share my labels with a friend?
In Settings, tap Share these labels to send a message with a code, or Show QR code for your friend to scan with Scan a friend's code in their own Signal Says.
How does "Tell me when it's back" work?
When your signal is weak, tap Tell me when it's back on the notification or in the app. Your phone alerts you once the signal reaches two bars again. It gives up after six hours, and it needs Show in status bar switched on.
Which languages does Signal Says speak?
English, Spanish, German, French and Portuguese. It follows your phone's language, and on Android 13 or later you can choose a language just for Signal Says in your phone's settings.
